Terms of Service
Last updated: April 2026
1. Acceptance of terms
By downloading, installing, or using the Mend app ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
2. What Mend is
Mend is a heartbreak recovery companion app. It provides guided emotional support through AI-powered character companions, journaling tools, daily rituals, and curated quotes over a 90-day programme.
3. What Mend is not
Mend is not a medical service, therapy platform, or crisis intervention tool. The AI companions are not therapists, counsellors, or medical professionals. They do not diagnose, prescribe, or provide clinical treatment of any kind.
If you are in crisis or experiencing thoughts of self-harm, please contact the Samaritans on 116 123 (UK) or 988 (US) immediately.
4. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to use Mend. By using the App, you confirm that you meet this age requirement.
5. Account & data
- You may sign in with Apple, Google, email, or use the App as a guest.
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
- Journal entries and personal data are stored securely and are associated with your user account.
- You may delete your account and all associated data at any time from the Settings screen.
6. Purchases & payments
- Mend offers a free 7-day trial. After the trial, the full journey requires a one-time purchase.
- Payments are processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
- One-time purchases grant permanent access — there are no recurring charges.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google per their respective policies.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Mend to harm, harass, or abuse others.
- Attempt to extract, reverse-engineer, or misuse the AI systems.
- Use Mend as a substitute for professional mental health treatment.
8. AI companions
The character companions (Luna, Raze, Sael, Nori, Vael) are powered by AI language models. Their responses are generated, not written by humans. While we design them to be supportive and safe, they may occasionally produce unexpected or imperfect responses.
Mend includes safeguarding measures: if crisis language is detected, the AI will direct you to professional support services and pause the conversation.
9. Intellectual property
All content, characters, artwork, and design in Mend are owned by King Chi Ltd. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without written permission.
10. Limitation of liability
Mend is provided "as is" without warranty. King Chi Ltd is not liable for any damages arising from your use of the App, including but not limited to emotional distress, data loss, or reliance on AI-generated content.
11. Changes to terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance. We will notify users of material changes through the App.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
